John Stokes

Head of Professional Development, Metropolitan Police

John Stokes is the Head of Professional Development at the Metropolitan Police's Directorate of Information (DoI), which provides ICT services directly and indirectly to the rest of the MPS.

In this role he is responsible for the 'Professionalisation' agenda, aligning the DoI with industry and Government IT best practice. This includes the planning and budgeting of technical training covering a variety of ICT specialism’s, with particular interest in the SFIA families of Strategy and Architecture, Business Change and Service Management.

John's career began as a training deliverer, designer and manager within the automobile and oil sectors, both in the UK and the USA, before moving to ICL as a development consultant. Since then he has specialised as an organisation consultant with a strong emphasis on people and skills development, first with Hay Management Consultants and then as a Partner in his own practice - servicing a wide variety of organisations within the public and private sectors.

John has a degree in Economics from Cambridge University.
