So you want to be a business analyst?

With plentiful vacancies and attractive salaries on offer, this is a great time for IT professionals to embark on a career in business analysis.

Most IT professionals, at some stage in their careers, will work on a project that brings them into contact with business analysts. And whether they're an application developer, a database engineer or a storage administrator, some will decide that business analysis is a role they’d like to take on themselves.

Now is a great time to make that move. Business analysts are the IT staff currently most in demand for both permanent and contract roles in the UK, according to research released in July 2011 by management consultancy firm KPMG and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC). In fact, according to the research, employers have been reporting a continued shortage of business analysts right back to the start of this year.
