How to secure mobile devices

Businesses are increasingly mobile and this adds a range of risks and complexity to information management and security strategies for IT managers. It’s a situation that’s made even more complex by the wide variety of devices in use, from laptops and tablets, to smartphones and portable storage devices. All this is made more perilous by the growing use of end-user liable hardware (often referred to as “bring-your-own-device”).

IT managers will need to start any mobile device security strategy with a usage policy. Your users must know the risks associated with the use of a mobile device and their resulting responsibilities. A mobile device usage policy should also include details of how the business works with user-liable devices, what approaches it uses to ensure device security and what a user should expect if a device is lost or if they leave the company.
