Boardroom apathy thwarts IT projects
Written by James West
IT development is being hampered by a lack of executive level support after a study by NetApp found 61 per cent of IT managers complaining that the board fails to see the value of efficient technology.
60 per cent of the 200 IT decision makers quizzed say the majority of their IT project plans receive heavy resistance from senior managers, with 98 per cent stating they struggle to gain funding for new initiatives at some stage.
Highlighting the lack of common language between IT managers and business leaders, 27 per cent of respondents claim they are “never sure of the board’s attitude”.
Those working in the financial services industry have the hardest time securing budget to expand IT services, while professional services organisations are the most receptive to ideas.
"IT is fundamental to the overall business mix; companies who invest in the right way reap the benefits. Efficient and flexible technologies can remove barriers within an organisation and allow for a focus on the real task at hand, running the business," says David Allen, managing director NetApp UK and Ireland.
